Overview
Karaca Dag is a broad shield volcano in southeastern Turkey, rising between the plains of Diyarbakir and Sanliurfa. Its summit reaches nearly 2,000 meters, and the volcano’s basaltic flows shape a wide, gently sloping massif.
The mountain’s springs and seasonal streams are important for nearby villages, helping sustain agriculture in an otherwise dry steppe environment.
Landscape and Culture
Karaca Dag’s volcanic soils support grazing and dryland farming, while its highlands provide summer pasture. The mountain is part of the wider Kurdish cultural landscape of northern Mesopotamia.
Notes
Volcanic ridges and lava fields are visible across the slopes.
