Overview
Lake Zrebar, also known as Zarivar, is a natural freshwater lake set in the Zagros foothills near Marivan. The lake stretches roughly 5 kilometers in length and is fed largely by springs and seasonal precipitation.
Zrebar is a key tourism and recreation site in Iranian Kurdistan, known for its calm waters, migratory birds, and cool summer climate.
Landscape and Culture
The lakeshore supports fishing, boating, and picnicking, and the surrounding wetlands provide habitat for waterfowl. The lake is often celebrated in Kurdish poetry and local folklore as a symbol of the Marivan basin.
Notes
In winter, the lake can partially freeze, creating a unique seasonal landscape.
